Owen Michaelson to join Board of Directors of O.C.O Technology
Owen Michaelson, former Chief Executive Officer of Encyclis, is to join global carbon capture specialist O.C.O Technology Group as a Non-Executive Director (NED) with effect from 1 January 2026.
With a remit to help guide international growth and expansion plans, his appointment comes as O.C.O intensifies its focus on new opportunities in the US and South East Asia.
O.C.O’s Group Chief Executive Officer Steve Greig said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Owen to our Board of Directors. His knowledge and understanding of the Energy-from-Waste (EfW) sector, combined with his passion for sustainability, will undoubtedly bring new depth and strength to our business.
“In joining us, Owen has made it clear that he has been impressed by both our technology and our commitment to enabling EfW operations to take a step closer to achieving their circular economy objectives. Owen has an outstanding business track record and, as an integral part of our team, will play a pivotal role in helping guide and structure us towards our long-held goal of further international growth and expansion. We see this very much as a vote of confidence in our technology and are very excited about having him on board.”
Owen Michaelson added: “I have been closely following O.C.O’s journey from start-up to becoming a world-leader in carbon capture technology, and believe there is huge untapped potential in using the CO2 mineralisation process to further transform the waste sector worldwide.
“I am delighted to be part of the next chapter of O.C.O’s growth and look forward to supporting the Board as O.C.O seeks to become an even bigger player on the international carbon capture stage.”
As founding CEO of Encyclis, Owen transformed the business into a UK top six Energy from Waste operator over a four-year period, including developing one of the UK’s first full scale carbon capture plants at Protos in Cheshire.
With a passion for sustainability and innovation, he has held a number of Executive and Non-Executive Board positions in both the UK and US, alongside serving on the Boards of a number of public bodies, environmental charities and trade associations. This included chairing Resource Recovery UK (RRUK) and being a Board member of the Environmental Services Association (ESA).
O.C.O Technology aims to become a £50 million turnover business in 2026, a figure expected to increase by upwards of 50% in the next few years as the company continues to expand in both the UK and overseas.
It already operates three production facilities across the UK, together with partnership projects in Australia, Japan and Europe; and is looking at future opportunities in North America and Asia.
The company uses innovative carbon capture technology to treat waste materials from EfW facilities with CO2, turning them into carbon negative manufactured aggregate for the construction industry. The carbon stored within the aggregate also enables O.C.O to offer its own verified carbon removal credit scheme. O.C.O was awarded the King’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development 2024.
