Biscay Eco Aggregates is the first mineralisation plant in Continental Europe, strategically located in the Port of Bilbao in Biscay, Spain.
This joint venture partnership with Petronor uses O.C.O’s pioneering carbon capture technology (ACT) and CO2 from the Petronor refinery or other resources, to transform thermal residues (APCR), derived from waste, into sustainable construction materials known as Eco Aggregates for use within the built environment.
The project is leading the way towards de-carbonisation of the sector and has received funding from the European Commission’s 2020 Innovation Fund having been considered one of the most innovative initiatives for the development of low-carbon technologies and recognised by the RED INNPULSO network as a technological innovation.
Biscay Eco Aggregates has the capacity to recover up to 50,000 tonnes of thermal residues, capturing up to 6,000 tonnes of CO2 and producing 125,000 tonnes of Eco aggregates and make it possible to preserve 170,000 tonnes of natural aggregates each year.
