First delivery from Ness EfW facility
O.C.O Technology is delighted to have received its first delivery of Air Pollution Control residues (APCr) and fly ash from the Ness EfW facility in Aberdeen.
The Ness facility is owned by Ness Energy – a conglomeration of 3 Councils: Aberdeen City Council, City Shire, and Moray and is operated by Indaver. It started hot commissioning in [March 2023] and is expected to be fully operational by the summer of 2023.
O.C.O and Indaver entered into a contract for the management and recycling of the APCr from the facility in November 2021.
O.C.O uses its patented Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) to turn APCr into a highly sought after environmentally friendly aggregate known as Manufactured Limestone or M-LS. ACT treats APCr with carbon dioxide to enable the permanent capture of CO2. In doing so, O.C.O helps ensure that the Ness facility and Ness Energy can meet its zero waste to landfill and sustainability goals.
Representatives from O.C.O were given the fantastic opportunity to visit the Ness facility in March and we were able to return the favour when representatives from Ness Energy recently visited our Leeds Facility.

An Aberdeen City Council Spokesperson said: “This is another important step in the way we manage our waste. The Ness Energy from Waste facility aims to make use of all residues produced by the process so agreements such as the one with O.C.O will play a vital part as the facility becomes fully operational.”
