O.C.O Technology is delighted to announce that it has started to receive Air Pollution Control residues (APCr) from the Newhurst Energy Recover Facility (Newhurst ERF) (a project partnership between Encyclis and Biffa).

Following the first fire on waste in October 2022 at Newhurst ERF, O.C.O Technology took its first delivery of APCr in January 2023 at its ACT facility in Leeds.

O.C.O uses its patented Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) to turn APCr into a highly sought after environmentally friendly aggregate known as Manufactured Limestone or M-LS. ACT treats APCr with carbon dioxide to enable the permanent capture of CO2 and ensures the ERF can meet its zero waste to landfill goals.

This is the first delivery coming out of the long-term agreement between Encyclis (formerly Covanta) and O.C.O Technology completed in March 2022.

Newhurst ERF also hosted representatives from O.C.O Technology in September last year. O.C.O was able to return the favour and host representatives from Newhurst ERF in January 2023, just prior to the first delivery.

Lizzie Bayley, Legal and Commercial Manager said “We are delighted to commence the deliveries of the APCr from the Newhurst ERF. This is the start of our long-term relationship with Encyclis and we look forward to working together to promote sustainability and the circular economy.”
